About Me

My name is Sarah Obenauf. I love crafting, the outdoors, skiing, cooking, baking, and playing board games and cards. I started my at home daycare over three years ago as a way to be at home with my girls while also fostering the growth of other babies and toddlers that have become a part of my daycare family. It has been a huge learning experience for me and my girls, and it has been a joy to see some of the kids in my care go from toddlers who couldn't put on their own shoes to kindergarteners who write their own stories!
Before beginning the daycare I was an Elementary Teacher. I have taught fourth and fifth grade both Internationally, in NorthCarolina, and in Michigan. I grew up in Chelsea and attended Albion College where I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. Seeing the development that happens in the early years has opened my eyes so much. These formative years are so very important, and the relationships, learning, and fun, make even the toughest of days worth it.
I provide an attentive, nurturing environment where kids are given the opportunity to learn, play, and be creative. We emphasize team work and encourage each other in all of our accomplishments, big and small. I believe structure is important for mealtimes, nap times, and some daily routines, but I also see the value in having flexibility. I know it can be hard to balance work and family, and I take pride in offering childcare that feels more like home than a traditional center.
My family has been a huge support system for me throughout this experience. My husband, Chad, works for Carhartt Headquarters in Dearborn. My mom, Becky, often comes over after she finishes work to lend a helping hand in the afternoon. Any adult who is in my home during daycare hours has a required and completed background check. My kids, Christian, 11; Ginger, 7; Rania, 5; and Olivia, 3, are all also a part of the daycare gang from time to time. It is so refreshing to see the interactions that take place with all of the kids.
I take my job and responsibility very seriously. I know how hard it is to leave your little one in another person's care. Daily reports are sent via email, as well as pictures I take to share a little about what we are learning. I am very open with communication, and am willing to discuss anything and everything with parents about your child's development.
